At Westrea Stud we have a philosophy of handling
our horses, at whatever age, with respect and love. We use natural
horsemanship to achieve a balance of trust between human and horse.
All our horses live in herds even those that are ridden daily. Nothing
lives in a stable unless it has to due to illness or foaling. There
is nothing worse than couping up a horse for no reason. Our horses
are taught to trust and work with humans by humans, and to be how
to be a horse by horses!
Our philosophies are based on the work of Monty Roberts and Kelly
Marks. At Westrea we breed for the love of horses
& ponies and not for vast profits! We only breed a few youngster
per year this gives us time to spend with them using natural horsemanship
which will benefit you, the owner, in years to come.
The name of "Westrea" is taken from the
Titan theology. Westrea is an alternative name given to "Usrel"
who is the Goddess of Peace & Love. We felt this very fitting
for our stud with both rider and horse working in harmony together.
